U Toe AungMyint, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, delivered the opening speech at the workshop to review the ATIGA Assessment, "Implementing ATIGA to link up to ASEAN Value Chains" organized at Park Royal Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw, on 2 May at 9:00 a.m.

The Permanent Secretary delivered the speech that Myanmar made the initiative and implementation of AEC Blueprint for Growth to win the Key Achievements, the line ministries are successfully implementing the thematic commitments while some commitments are still required to implement. In this regard, the World Bank is supporting to Ministry of Commerce in the area ofGap Assessment to identify various slippages relative to 98 articles in 11 chapters comprised at ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA).In the findings of the report, total of five sectors including transparency and trade facilitation were identified since the Union of Myanmar is one of the ASEAN countries and there may be both strength and weakness in the implementation to achieve the free flow of goods within ASEAN. He asked the relevant line ministries to cooperate and coordinate and provide the required suggestions and recommendations in identifying challenges and the general needs that will need to be addressed if it is to meet the commitments and enable business in Myanmar to trade internationally on a competitive basis.

Then the members from World Bank including two international, Mr. Sjamsu Rahardja and Mr. Fabio Artuso presented the Report to the Representatives from line ministries and agencies and explained the future activities and discussed on the suggestions and recommendations.

Total of 70 participants including Permanent Secretary, the Officers from concerned Ministries, and the representatives from trade-related Ministries and Departments, the experts from World Bank participated in the workshop.
